Marketing in the News

For my marketing in the news assignment, I chose to go with the Game of Thrones Oreo collaboration. I decided to go with this article because I've just recently started the series, and a new season is about to come out.
In the article it talks about how each cookie will be pressed into different house logos, allowing fans to choose their favorite. To add on to that, using a hashtag they can vote for their favorite one. lastly, the Oreo brand has its own intro to the show, created by over 2,750 cookies.
The Value Proposition is that customers will be rewarded with special treats if you vote for the right house. They also play it off as a great snack when dealing with the fact that its the last season. To me, this seems to be a fairly relevant add program, not only because a new season is about to come out, but it has been about two years since the season before it. The add is creating hype for fans, and getting other people interested who might not have seen the show. Having the Game of Thrones logo plastered down the cookie aisle brings attention to many kinds of people.
This marketing approach is nothing new, in fact, companies like Mt. Dew and Bud Light are teaming up with a game of thrones. However, I really like how Oreo is attempting to reach out and interact with their customers. I think people will be eager to choose their favorite, and continue to watch in order to find out if they win.
lastly, I think Oreo could've done a better job at pushing their advertisement. After watching their intro I was surprised I hadn't seen it on Instagram or youtube. Those are great platforms to push your message out their, especially to the youth who might not cable TV. If those changes were made I think this is a great marketing strategy. It brings awareness to the new season, it involves people in the show, and its a great late night binge watching snack.
